Hello, young learners! Today, Madam Nagiha has some fun and easy activities to make your English lessons more exciting. Let’s dive in!
1. Class Bingo
This is a fun and interactive game that helps students learn more about each other. The teacher will provide a bingo card with different personal traits or characteristics.
- Each student needs to find a classmate who matches each characteristic and write their name in the corresponding box.
- The characteristics include loving to dance, having long hair, having a brother, having a pet cat, being afraid of spiders, liking to eat durian, wearing eyeglasses, liking to read books, being excellent in sports, being able to run very fast, being good in English, being scared of snakes, being left-handed, loving challenging activities, liking swimming, and walking to school.
- Once a student has filled all the boxes, they shout “BINGO!”.
- This game not only helps students learn new vocabulary but also encourages them to interact with their classmates and learn more about them.
2. Sit or Stand
This is an interactive and engaging activity that involves the entire class. The teacher will read out a statement, and students will choose to either sit or stand based on whether the statement applies to them. Here are some examples of statements that could be used:
- Have a Brother: If you have a brother, you stand. If you don’t, you sit. This helps students learn about their classmates’ families.
- Like Cats: If you like cats, you stand. If you don’t, you sit. This can lead to a discussion about pets and why people might prefer certain animals.
- Play a Sport: If you play a sport, you stand. If you don’t, you sit. This can encourage students to share about the sports they play and why they enjoy them.
- Been on a Plane: If you’ve been on a plane, you stand. If you haven’t, you sit. This can lead to sharing of travel experiences and discussions about different places.
3. Pick a Colour Game
This is an interactive game that involves the entire class. The teacher will display a set of colored crayons. Each student picks a color and then answers the corresponding question listed next to it. Here are some examples of questions that could be used:
- Red: Name your favourite hobby. If you have 1 million ringgit, what would you do with it?
- Yellow: Name your favourite food. Name a food that you dislike and explain why.
- Green: Name your favourite actor or actress. Name your favourite video games.
- Blue: What was your favourite activity you did this school holiday? If you can travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
4. Scavenger Hunt!
This is an engaging and interactive activity that involves the entire class. The teacher will provide a list of items that students need to find in their classroom. The items include a pencil, ruler, trash bin, notebook, bag of rice, backpack, art supplies box, pencil case, pen, marker, scissors, and shopping cart.
Students will look for each item in the classroom. If they find the item, they color the happy smiley face. If they don’t find the item, they color the sad smiley face. This game not only helps students learn new vocabulary but also encourages them to explore their surroundings and sharpens their observation skills.
5. My First Day of School
This is a reflective activity that allows students to share their personal experiences. The teacher will provide a template where students can fill in their personal details and reflect on their first day of school. Here are some examples of what could be included:
- My Name: Students write their name. This helps everyone learn each other’s names.
- My Age: Students write their age. This can lead to discussions about age and growing up.
- My Class: Students write which class they are in. This helps them identify their class community.
- My English Teacher: Students write the name of their English teacher. This helps them remember their teacher’s name.
- My Portrait: Students draw or paste a picture of themselves. This allows them to express their creativity and identity.
- My Favourite Colour, Song, Movie: Students write their favourite colour, song, and movie. This can lead to discussions about personal preferences and individuality.
- This Year, I Will Be: Students complete this sentence with their goals or expectations for the year. This encourages them to set personal goals and think about their future.
